Review: The Weird Girls: A Novella

The Weird Girls: A Novella
Written by Cecy Robson
Published by Penguin Group
Released on December 4, 2012
Supernatural Fiction

Synopsis:

Celia Wird and her three sisters are just like other 20-something girls - with one tiny exception: they're products of a backfired curse that has given each of them unique powers that make them, well, a little weird...

The Wird sisters are different from every race on earth - human and supernatural. When human society is no longer an option for them, they move in among the resident vampires, werebeasts, and witches of the Lake Tahoe region. Could this be the true home they've longed for? Um, no quite. After the sisters accidentally strip a witch of her powers in a bar brawl, they soon realize the mistake will cost them. Because to take on a witch means to take on her coven. And losing the battle isn't an option.

I love it when I find another really good series and The Weird Girls is definitely going to be a good supernatural series. This is a fairly short novella to introduce Celia, Taran, Shayna, and Emme and to establish them as fun, unique characters. It gives the reader a nice glimpse of what is to come once the sisters have settled into their new Lake Tahoe home.

Each sister has her own distinct personality and unique power. Ms. Robson created a tight bond with the sisters. They are extremely loyal to one another. They are all they that have and will protect their family at all costs. I really loved the loyalty among the sisters. It is a very powerful bond which, I bet, we will see later on in the series.

In this novella, Celia is the narrator and the true protector of the sisters. Her inner beast is incredibly powerful and, I believe, she has a love/hate relationship that beast. She knows she was given her power for a reason and that is to protect. However, at the same time, it has given her a very lonely life. It will be interesting on who will be brave enough to handle a relationship with her and I'm sure we will about to find out in later books.

I found Weird Girls to be a very fun beginning for the Wird sisters. It's fast-paced and will not leave you bored. You will definitely want to start reading the next book which is Sealed with a Curse. Make sure you have it already before you finish The Weird Girls because you will want to know what happens next!
